I am not a crocheter. I much prefer to knit. But I do like how quick and thick these adorable hats turn out. Plus, since these start out with a hair elastic at the top, it's much easier to attach using crochet (IMHO). On top of that, it is crochet, but I think it has more modern appeal with the cables and post design. And the bottom band mimics a knit stitch.
My mini-me loves them too. She's all about matching with her sister and was thrilled to have something that matched me. You can find the pattern for these hats in my Etsy shop. It includes the instructions for both the kids and adult sizes and photo instructions on all the stitches.

It's getting colder and colder here. Time for some new slippers to keep our feet warm from the cold floors! I found this great free pattern from Things for Boys. Knitted Baby Uggs Then I used a larger needle and added some stitches here and there to make a pair in my size too! My poor oldest daughter, she's been left out on the last two projects - slippers and a hat coming her way soon! I recently found some cute little 1 oz skeins of yarn at Walmart. (Lion Brand DIYarn - despite searching and searching I couldn't find it online.) They were only $0.88, so you can't go wrong - perfect for a hat. And my youngest needed a hat to go with her jacket this winter. I found a wonderful pattern for a Baby/Kids' Earflap Hat from Hey Julie. (Bonus, there are links for the children's and adult sizes too!) I modified it a little by adding a few rows in the back before casting on the front stitches. I find it covers the back of my little girl's head this way. I also added a few stitches to the initial cast on and knitted it in ribbing. I never know how much she's going to grow so the extra stretch will come in handy if she gets a big growth spurt before hat season is over! |
